Run-D.M.C. group member Darryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels is the subject of a new VH1 franchise called “VH1 Rock Docs,” which reveals untold stories in the world of rock and Hip-Hop music.

D.M.C.’s documentary will focus on the pioneering rapper’s recent, shocking discovery that he was adopted.

Over the course of the program, D.M.C. reveals his new perspective on life as he discovers his birthroots.

The VH1 documentary will feature a new video and song titled “Just Like Me,” taken from his upcoming album, Checks Thugs and Rock 'n Roll.

“Just Like Me” was directed by Shawn Papazian and produced by Mike DeLorenzo and Romeo Antonio. Sarah McLachlan provides backing vocals in the song and also makes a guest appearance in the video.

“The last five years of my life have been an emotional storm of change," D.M.C. told AllHipHop.com in a statement. "The profound personal loss with the deaths of Jam Master Jay and my father, the shocking discovery that I was adopted and the pain of the impact of living in a world where the ravages of war continue to destroy so many lives, this album is not something I wanted to do - its something I had to do.”

D.M.C. enlisted Ondi Timoner to direct the video for “Machine Gun,” another single from the album.

Timoner snagged a Sundance Film Festival Award for her documentary “Dig.”

D.M.C. also assembled an impressive list of artists to round-out Check Thugs and Rock ‘n Roll.

Former group member Run (Rev Run) appears on the album, along with Kid Rock, Doug E. Fresh, DJ Lethal, Napoleon (Outlawz), Tom Hamilton (Aerosmith), Elliot Easton (The Cars), Fieldy (Korn), Ms. Jade, Sonny Black, Gary Dourdan (“CSI”), Joey Kramer and Romeo Antonio.

The album is being released through a joint venture D.M.C. struck with RomenMpire Records, a division of Prime Multimedia Inc. (PRMX)

“With the support of my brothers at RomenMpire Records and Prime Multimedia I have a chance to emerge from Run-D.M.C. as D.M.C., in a solo career to say what I have to say with the words and music of this album."

VH1 Rock Docs launch in January of 2006.

Checks Thugs and Rock 'n Roll hits stores soon. Fans can check D.M.C.’s new website, www.me-D.M.C.com for further updates.

Hey D,

I just watched the documentary on VH1 and the video with Sarah M.

Thank you for sharing with us all. I think one of your many purposes in this life is sharing your story with us, and making all of us who are fortunate to have love and goodness in our lives step back and appreciate it that much more. I sure do after seeing your story and the moving video.

Thanks again and keep rockin',
John

D-

I am sitting in my kitchen with very little light ... one over the stove and the blue haze or glow of my computer screen, and the tears are rolling down my face. I just saw your Documentary on VH1 and the 'Just Like Me' video.

First and foremost, I too am adopted. I was born in 1965 and adopted from a hospital in Newark NJ. Small world ... I am also in the process of adopting my own child to join our first son (he is biological). So ... you see ... there is a higher power who sat me down here tonight and came across VH1!!!!

I am searching for the words to tell you how amazing your honesty is and that while many people will applaud your message, there will be people like us who will feel your message. Those of us touched by the beauty and 'angel' of adoption will KNOW why you shared this with the world.

I think the most important message you shared in this wonderful gift of a program was when you told your birth mother that she was part of something 'big'. Far too often do we see people use their fame or talents to further an agenda or political statement. Of late, we've even see people use their access to the media to throw stones. Not you Darryl, you have used your talents and gifts to share with the world that being adopted is an amazing thing.

Thank you from me and thank you from the child I am waiting for. This is a message far too long in coming!

i just saw your documentary, and as an 24 year old who is still very much dealing with the realities of being adopted, id like to thank you for sharing your story. i can't remember anyone being so open, honest, and PUBLIC about their adoptive experience, and i think you should know how much it will change the lives of others in simliar situations. it has already made a huge impact on mine.

After seeing the VH1 special last night, I had to post something!

Watching DMC go through everything like he did brought back all of the emothions I went through. I completely understand the feelinig of needing to find your roots. I don't talk to my birth famiy nearly as much as my "real" family, but it has definitely filled something in me I always wondered about.

I am 35 now, but I was 8 years old when I found out I was adopted. There was not one single day that I didn't think about the fact that I was different than most people - including my parents. I always wondered why thiese people gave me up and they went on to have more children (brothers and sisters).

Well, my dad (my "real" dad that I grew up with) died in 2000. Soon after that I realized that I better start my search before my birth family is gone.

I ended up finding my birthmom 4 years ago. I knew her name from adoption papers and letters. I went to 1800USsearch.com and paid for a listing of all women in the US with that name. There were 4 or 5 really nice ladies that contacted me just to wish me luck! My birthmom called about 2 weeks later. She told me it took a while to build up the courage to call me back and tell her family about me. We wanted to make arrangements to meet, but I needed to tell my "real" mom. This was the tough part.

My wife and I flew from NJ to FL so we could do this in person. I say "we" because my wife is my biggest support system and I probably would have never done any of this without her. I told my mom mom that SHE is my mom, but I have a strong need to meet this lady that gave bith to me. It wasn't the easiest conversation, but my mom is one undertanding woman and she fully supported me.

This is really where the VH1 special hit home to me. I had forgotten how it felt to meet my birthmom. We sat and held hands for a few minutes before any words at all. Then I told her how I may have had feelings of abandonment over the years (and that I think that is natural) but that I never hated her. I loved her very much for giving me to a family that loved me so much. She then told me how she had feelings of guilt over the years and never stopped loving me or hoping that I would contact her some day.

I then went on to meet my 2 half brothers and my half sister (she married someone other than my birth father). Since meeting them, I have met and gotten to know A LOT more of my birth familes. My birthfather died when he was 34, so I will never get to meet him. It's been a rollercoaster, but I have zero regrets about finding them.

I have heard or reuniting stories not going very well - where a birth mother was really upset by having a child bringing up things they wanted to forget. I am so happy that my meeting went so well and that DMC was fortunate enough to have it go well too!! Congrats!!!

Thanks for sharing your story DMC. Hope nobody minds that I just shared mine too!!!
