A hot time was had by all 1,000 hockey fans who checked out the Ice Party at the Hotel Commonwealth the other night, kicking off the NHL Winter Classic celebration.
The wintery mix of league officials, sponsors, Bruins [team stats] and Flyers folk and Bruins Foundation supporters partied on three floors of the Kenmore Square hotel after the B’s shut-out the Atlanta Thrashers 4-0 at the TD Garden .
Police presence at the doors was huge, but we think it had more to do with the two shiny, spotlighted Bentleys parked in front of the hotel!
On the ground floor, Woodman’s, the Sausage Guy, Upper Crust Pizza and Ben & Jerry’s served up eats, and Darryl McDaniels, late of Run DMC, Charlie Chan and DJ Deja entertained the throng.
A silent auction of primo NHL memorabilia, conveniently located near the Gentleman Jack ice bar on the second floor, raised a ton of dough for the Bruins Foundation.
And upstairs, on a small ice rink, the Bruins Ice Girls, dressed as a gaggle of Lady Gagas, vogued in their stilettos. The gals were decked out in fab frocks from Lit Boutique and carried NHL-designed bags by Pangea Brands, the co-sponsor of the event.
During the fashion show, the ice was covered, but the white tarp was lifted afterwards just in case any revelers wanted to rent skates and take a spin. We didn’t see any.
Bruins Foundation biggie Bob Sweeney was there, along with B’s alum Rick Middleton, Red Sox [team stats] bride Tiffany Ortiz, NESN and ESPN2’s “Mad Fisherman” Charlie Moore and wife Angela; NESN’s Heidi Watney and the TD Garden gang led by arena prez John Wentzell, Mary Clivio, Trish McCorkle and Amy Lattimore.
We also spotted Mass. Sports and Entertainment guy Paul Foster; “Chronicle” gal Mary Richardson and her hubby, Stan Levin; screenwriter Keith Dorrington and his date, PR gal Jeanie Flynn, and Sausage Guy Dave Littlefield .
The big benefit do, which ended at around 1 a.m. and continued until last call at the Eastern Standard bar next door, was put on by Pangea and Marlo Marketing/Communications.
