Hip-hop legend Darryl McDaniels— better known to most as the DMC half of Run-DMC— joined forces with D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty on Tuesday to help launch a month-long campaign aimed at increasing the number of foster homes.
McDaniels was adopted as an infant, and he is serving as a spokesman for the District's new campaign. He only learned he had been adopted about a decade ago, and his story was developed into an award-winning documentary. Now, he's dedicating his time to helping and inspiring other foster and adopted children.
McDaniels, 44, will spend two days this week in the city, visiting kids and filming an ad for the city's foster care program, which was made possible by a $100,000 donation from Freddie Mac Foundation.
According to the mayor, the city's goal is to have at least 500 D.C. homes within 18 months. He hopes the new campaign will get the word out.
